HIGHLAND WIND
(Emery
Pike-Sean Pike)
Morning birds calling out, waking me to my day.
Mist in the valley, tells me the sun’s on its way.
Somewhere someone’s calling, calling me back to my
home.
The pipes on the breeze in my memory, lets my mind
roam.
Highland Wind; carry me back to my kin.
My love lies over the sea; just like the ages before
me.
Many have gone before me and now its your turn.
It’s not what you say ‘cause they won’t remember your
words.
Stay proud and true my young one, hold your head high.
Remember the shores of Loch Lomond, it’s there that
I’ll lie.
Highland Wind; carry me back to my kin.
My love lies over the sea; just like the ages before
me.

Emery’s Notes:
My brother and I were working in the studio one
night and came up with this little gem as a tribute to our Scottish
heritage. He’s a great
bagpiper, as you can tell from the song, and thought it would be cool if we
could weave together a “three part movement”, with the intro being slower
and introspective. The middle part puts our pride of heritage out in the
open, and the end bit is an uptempo fusion of Scottish pipes, Appalachain
wooden guitar, and African drums. Bet you won’t hear this on any Top 40
station!
