BIOGRAPHY:
Emery
grew up in the family of a career U.S. Army officer, moving frequently
around the US and overseas. While living in Stuttgart, West Germany
in his early teens, he began studying the guitar, and playing in
both formal and improvisational bands. Early musical influences
included the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix.
He
subsequently became immersed in jazz music, noting as particular
inspirations the stylings of Django Reinhardt, Pat Metheny Group,
and Larry Carlton. During his college days at Wake Forest University,
he played lead guitar and sang with "The Unnecessary Rules",
a proto pop punk band that sonically challenged audiences throughout
North Carolina on a regular basis, drawing inspiration from the
Clash, U2, and the Pretenders, among others.
In 2001, Emery founded his own record label, Daddy Thunder Musik, and released a collection of original compositions on CD entitled "Press Release" (daddythunder.com).
Most recently, he completed a 3 year stint with the Double Take Band (doubletake.cc) in 2006. Emery still makes occasional solo appearances
and is an active business entrepreneur in Winston-Salem NC.
